In late 2010, after completing a 30 city college tour and the tragic death of their long time MC Abay “Carnegie†Lattin, Silver Medallion relocated to Brookyn, NY to focus on rebuilding the groups brand and musical focus. The music that came out of that time forms the core of No One Ever Really Dies, Silver Medallion’s sophomore album with international mixtape DJ and Tastemaker DJ Benzi, a free project designed to showcase the talents of the late Carnegie, and also form the basis for the future of the dance/pop group’s sound, as they delve deeper into dance/pop, dubstep, and nu-disco.
Longtime Silver Medallion visual collaborator Giulio Sciorio, when approached to discuss videos for the No One Ever Really Dies project, decided to take the visuals to the next level by creating a 10 minute short film “Slave to the City”, starring Silver Medallion and featuring several of the albums tracks as the score. A synopsis of the storyline is as follows:
“Nothing is what it seems in this visually stunning thriller by Giulio Sciorio. Silver Medallion travels to NYC to start a new life only to be haunted by his past. Just when he meets the girl of his dreams, Rhonda, things take a turn for the worse. A crazed fan takes her obsession to the next level by abducting Silver Medallion, but what he doesn’t realize is that she does not want him as a lover…she wants to become him. What unfolds is a dangerous, tangled web of seduction, drugs and double-crosses in this stylish thriller based on the album No One Ever Really Dies by Silver Medallion.â€
The entire project was filmed with a Canon 5D MKII over five days in New York City.
