The last few weeks I’ve been thinking a lot about the holidays and the current state of our country. I was talking to a friend who was complaining about how bad the economy is, which reminded me how much our country had been through. In this new song I sample a series of speeches from JFK and FDR, each of which exemplified to me how much our country has struggled and prevailed before. Given the current state of affairs I wanted to make a song to show that there is hope, hope for a better and more equal future for all. As FDR says, “This great nation will endure, as it has endured. We’ll revive and we’ll prosper.” It was the perfect message for the holidays, so I hope you enjoy my new song “Here We Stand,” which melodically samples a famous christmas song I think you all will remember.
