Since starting his career in the 2007, Wordsmith has been a thinking man’s emcee. On his third solo project, King Noah, the Baltimore, MD rapper has created a straightforward hip-hop album, no swag. no gimmicks. With his trademark keen wordplay, **King Noah** (NU Revolution Entertainment) is in part a celebration of his young son, Kingston Noah Parker, and part blue print for all young men in America. Featured guests include ELiM, Phil Ade and K. Sparks. Production is shared by Centric, Capish, Certified, Rednaz Beats, Strada, DJ Eclipse, and Benny Rome.
Whether it be “Music for the Masses,†“Never Be the Same” feat. ELiM, “Eye for the Spotlight” feat. Phil Ade, Wordsmith tackles topical subjects such as hate, racial profiling, achieving your dreams, and leadership over head-nodding jazz infused beats reminiscent of hip-hop’s golden era.
Hardly new to the scene, Wordsmith originally caught the attention of critics in 2009 after teaming-up with the legendary Chubb Rock after they released Bridging the Gap, an album which was powered by the lead single, “OId 2 the New.†The next year, he released his debut solo LP Vintage Experience (2010), which garnered him praise for his creativity and witty wordplay. “After only a few moments of speaking with Wordsmith one can see his advantage over other rappers…†stated Allhiphop.com. In addition, the album was lauded in outlets such as Hip Hop Weekly, Washington Post, Urb, HipHopDX, 2 Dope Boyz, Sohh, and MTV Mixtape Mondays.
Wordsmith garnered an ASCAPLUS Award in 2011-2012 and he licensed tracks with Nintendo, ESPN, VH1, Golf Channel, Six Flags, ABC, CBS and PBS.
Born in Germany, the son of a U.S. Army Colonel, Wordsmith traveled the world and developed a broad musical palette from an early age. “I went to school at the United Nations because by ten years old,” explains the worldly Wordsmith, “I had friends from every corner of the globe. Having that experience has just made me more open to different cultures and experiences–and I try to convey that in my music.”
If Wordsmith’s goal was to create another heartfelt album his son can live by, King Noah is already a success.
King Noah will be available June 19.
