So the “G U N D A M” album from Steezy Grizzlies dropped yesterday and I was pretty amped to hear it; spent most of the day bumping it while I was writing up blog posts and finishing some desk work. As I was planning to write a track by track review, I decided to go against that format and substitute it for one that was more direct to the album content, rather than focusing on specific songs and how they breakdown.
From the start of the album, you can tell (for the most part) that Steezy’s “happy-go-lucky, I don’t give a fuck what you think” flow is still prominent. Now, there’s no problem with that. There’s still some kind of growth that I notice (I can’t place it, still trying) from past drops that makes most of the verses on this album stand out from other similar rappers releases.
You’ve gotta have not only the rhymes but one hell of a mic presence to make it in the industry and Steezy’s definitely got it. Some people might be like “This album lacks substance.” And, again, there’s nothing wrong with that… When you’re young, why the fuck does EVERYTHING have to be serious?! That’s the reason that so many artists are hit-or-miss in my book! Have some fun, you’re too young to be taking life so literally… So continuing through the depths of this record, Steezy does that just fine, approaching every track with an air of arrogance that is all too common in rap these days but he does it right.
So, without ruining the entire album and leaving you absolutely no surprises, I highly recommend you give this bad boy a listen and show dude some love over on Twitter! The album, though not for everybody, is definitely gonna play on my iPod for a while.
