2013 has been nothing short of a whirlwind for Atlanta newcomers, ILLClinton. Following the success of their debut release, “ILLANTA” (released via Datpiff) in February, the brothers, Brennan (artist) and Blake Belair (producer) have seemed to gain recognition faster than anyone could have imagined. 17,000 streams and 8,000 downloads later, ILLClinton was approached to release a six song EP with Scion Audio/Visual, or Scion AV (a Toyota Motors Company) entitled “The ILL Experiment” in September. Last month, the group rocked out on stage (for their second and third shows ever, respectively) in New York City: Once in Brooklyn at The Knitting Factory for Scion AV’s open mic series alongside IAMSU! and Problem, and again the next week in Manhattan at Noisey’s CMJ Rap Show at Santos Party House, with upcoming artists Vic Mensa, Mr. MF Exquire, and World’s Fair.
What’s next for ILLClinton? Back in the studio in Atlanta, the group is currently recording their 2014 follow up, ILLANTA II. Their new single, “Prophets”, is the first cut off of the project and a MUST LISTEN. An immaculate video was filmed in Brooklyn for the eloquent, yet mobbish sounding track, and is expected to release by the end of this quarter. Take a listen as Brennan lyrically eviscerates this timeless Blake Belair instrumental, that consists of hard hitting trap percussion over another regal sample.
